'U' Students Vie To Be Charlie Sheen's Intern
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Actor Charlie Sheen's antics may have put his career in jeopardy, but three University of Minnesota students would love to get his name on their resume.
The students are among several hundred nationwide still in the running to be Sheen's intern, The Minnesota Daily reported. Josh Schreiner, Andrew Wagner and Shanna Henderson hope to survive the next expected cut to about 50 hopefuls.
The person chosen for the full-time, eight-week paid internship will work closely with Sheen to maintain his social media platforms.
The job posted on Internships.com called for candidates with "(hash)TigerBlood." Applicants submitted pleas in 75 characters or less, followed by a traditional application with relevant work experience plus a YouTube video addressing questions about social media.
Henderson, a junior studying strategic communications, called it a professional opportunity of a lifetime. In her application, Henderson promised simply, "I will keep Sheeniacs salivating for more day to day controversy."
Schreiner's reason for applying is a bit more unorthodox. The political science junior, also a legislative assistant at the state Capitol, said he thinks the contest is a hoax and he wants to see what happens at the end. His parents told him to take the job would be career suicide. He disagrees, saying Sheen's millions of Twitter followers would give him a base for launching his career.
"It would be like going from high school to the NBA."
Wagner, a junior studying political science, said he thinks he can rehabilitate Sheen's image.
None of the three students said they know when the final 50 applicants will be announced.
Sheen, who has more than 3.4 million followers on Twitter, is touring with his new live variety show "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option." The show opened in Detroit on Saturday, but ended abruptly when the audience booed the "Two and a Half men" star off the stage.
