Wally Won't Be Selling Beer At Target Field

By Susie Jones, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The vendor affectionately known as Wally the Beer Man will be selling beer at the Twins home opener this Friday.

But it won't be inside Target Field.

"I'm going to move on to a new venture in my life at Sneaky Pete's as a celebrity beer vendor," said Wally McNeil.

Though he was found not guilty of selling beer to minors at a Minnesota Twins game last fall, the company that sells beer at Target Field, Delaware North, has said he is suspended indefinitely.

McNeil says it's time to move on, because he didn't want to fight the suspension.

McNeil's fellow beer vendor Ed Stepnik was found guilty of a gross misdemeanor following the sting at Target Field last September. An unnamed juror told reporters that he felt McNeil was entrapped, but Stepnik simply made a mistake.

Stepnik said he was distracted the night of the sting because he was waiting on the results of recent cancer tests.
