Madison Police Respond To Woman’s Prank On Sister

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A woman’s April Fool’s prank pulled on her sister got the Madison police involved.

Police say a Madison woman texted her 55-year-old sister that her husband hit her and she was going to hit him back.

The Capital Times reported the sister reacted by calling 911, not only because of the text but because she said there likely was a gun in the house.

Police spokesman Joel DeSpain says the sister quickly called back 911 after learning her sister fooled her. But he says police continued because it isn’t uncommon for one of the parties in a domestic disturbance to try to dissuade police from responding.

Three officers responded on Friday and DeSpain says the sister who sent the text was very apologetic.

That’s kind of a stupid prank…..domestic abuse is not a laughing matter.

This is what happens when a bunch of striking public workers sit around home all day. They’re bound to get into mischief.

LOL. Reminds me of when my mom was in a bank robbery in New Mexico around 1981. She didn’t know the bank was being robbed & afterwards was being interviewed & on the news that night saying she saw some guys in front of her with gloves on but otherwise didn’t realize the bank was being robbed. So being about 22yrs old at the time I asked my bro in law to call her & pretend he’s one of the robbers & tell her she better keep quiet & not tell the police about him or he’d come & get her. My bro in law & I started to get scared that she would call police so I called her back & told her it was a joke. We scared the heck out of her & her husband but she was too scared to call police. Have to have a sick sense of humor I guess to do that, but my dear old mom forgave me. She was probably relieved it wasn’t a real call

I would think that they would be getting a bill from the city for this prank…. no body else should have to pay for it!

  • Me, not you

As a victim of domestic violence, this is offensive. In my 24 yrs of being married, I couldn’t get the cops to arrest him and the abuse indured. He controlled the money.

Must be more to your story, they take those calls very seriously.

I was arrested because my ex came home drunk after a night out, called the cops and told them she was afraid of me. I WAS ASLEEP and didn’t even know she was home yet! She let them in and they dragged me out of my bed. Next morning when she sobered up she couldn’t get them to drop the charges, I spent the night in jail and had to pay to go to anger classes.

The cops DONT always take them calls serious. would get beat along with some other things on pretty much a daily basis. I called the cops, told my teacher, I begged to be taken away. But my dad always talked himself out of it. I even showed them the bruises. But my dad said that me and my brother were fighting again and they would leave.

That is something you do not joke about! As a person who has witnissed it happen to my mother that is not funny! That disgusts me hearing about that. Police do not always take it seriously it took Stearns County almost an hour to get to my house when 3 of us each called 911.
