State Senator Struck By Car Released From Hospital

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A Minnesota Senator who was hit by a car while jogging has been discharged from the hospital Thursday.

Sen. Michael Jungbauer was admitted to Regions Hospital on Wednesday after being struck by a car during a routine morning run near the Capitol.

In the accident, he hit the back of his head on the ground. The driver of the vehicle stopped and helped Jungbauer, who was reported as being alert and awake before he was taken to the hospital.

Jungbauer expressed his gratitude Thursday afternoon.

"I want to thank the staff here, they were phenomenal," Jungbauer said. "I also want to thank everyone in the general public and everyone at work for their thoughts and prayers."

St. Paul Police say the driver was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

Jungbauer is a republican senator for District 48 and from East Bethel, Minn. He is serving his third term in the state Senate.
