Twins Place Nishioka On 15-Day Disabled List

NEW YORK (WCCO/AP) -- Infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured left fibula, the Minnesota Twins announced Thursday.

The heralded Japanese import was injured at Yankee Stadium Thursday when Nick Swisher slid into him at second base while breaking up a double play in the seventh inning. He had to be helped off the field, barely putting weight on the leg.

He will be evaluated by Dr. John Steubs in Minnesota Friday.

To replace Nishioka on the roster, the Twins announced they will recall infielder Luke Hughes from Triple-A Rochester. Hughes has a .270 career batting average in 598 minor league games.

The Twins signed Nishioka to a three-year, $9.25 million deal in December. He was 0 for 4 with a strikeout Thursday to drop his average to .208.
