Hmmm, this is why we never give up our struggle.

  • kg

This is the second article I’ve read in a row that negatively involves brooklyn park. The grand rios its on shambles, I remember going there as a kid. Now they are finding skeletons in the woods. Home values are ridiculously low there too. It’s clearly not what it used to be. The mall is deserted probably because of all the shoplifting, vandalism, and theft. My 94 year old grandmother was finally convinced that its time to leave her brooklyn park apartment that used to be for seniors only because the neighborhood had changed. She lived they’re since before I was born. I’m 25 years old and I learned early that you don’t ever go to brooklyn park. Why? …You know why.

    • Truth

KG you do not know what your talking about. The mall your referring to is in Brooklyn Center not Brooklyn Park. Get a clue there is crime everywhere.

    • JustSayin

mmmmmmhmmmmmm for sure. I’ve been there many times. But the last time made me want to NEVER go back ever again. And I won’t. I honestly, feared for me life the last time I was there. It’s been almost 10 years.

      • Miss Sunshine

I’ve lived in BP all my life and I ALWAYS feel safe. Yes it’s not as great as it used to be and yes Grand Rios is a horrible place, (i should know, i worked there) but it’s still a great place to live. I bet you don’t avoid Minneapolis or St. Paul because it isn’t the nicest place to live!

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.
        –Mohandas Gandhi

Get out from under your rock and embrace the world..it’s only going to get worse.

        • JustSayin

That’s great that you feel safe, but II don’t feel safe in Brooklyn Park. I love Mpls and St Paul. I would much rather spend a night in those cities ALONE than set foot into Brooklyn Park ever again.

          • Speechless

Where do you live? What makes your community so great? I have a supision you have these thoughts because of all the different people that live there. I lived in 3 different states, original from Minneapolis, Lived in Chicago and a small town, yet I find Brooklyn Park one of the greatest cities to live in. Have you ever been to the 3 community centers? You can keep bad mouthing a city that is trying to make a name for them. Brooklyn Park is a wonderful place to live. They actually have little to NO gang activity where Fridley, Coon Rapids and other burbs do.

        • Rusty Shakelford

You won’t feel so safe when that EBT card gets taken away.

          • A

I’ve lived in Brooklyn Park my WHOLE life, until just now I have moved to Minneapolis. I would by far say Minneapolis is scarier to live in and felt a lot safer in BP, so stop judging a book by its cover. If you don’t want to come to BP, than don’t, but don’t sit here and dis on our city. Just because the news says one thing, doesn’t mean the whole town is horrible. Many wonderful people live in Brooklyn Park and the city has many wonderful things going for it.

            • Mz P

Uh, excuse me Rusty, but U dropped your hood…don’t want to lose that now do we? Lol!

    • Speechless

Joke is on you my friend. The Mall Brookdale of which you speak of is in BROOKLYN CENTER. Now before you go make judgemens I suggest you get your facts straight. Or next time insert your foot in mouth. Plus I have lived in MANY different states and towns. Brooklyn Park is actually one of the most community active places. Apperantly in your 25 years of life you have had blinders over your eyes.

  • I Love Brooklyn Park

I am appalled at what you people are saying about Brooklyn Park. I happen to live there, and there is nothing wrong with it. Yes, we have many minorities here, but they’re all good people. And what about other white criminals? Jeffrey Dahmer anyone? Aryan Brothers? I think you people are making assumptions without really knowing what you’re talking about. It’s people like you that make Brooklyn Park seem like an unsafe area. Brooklyn Park is nowhere near as bad as the Bronx; it is NOT a ghetto or anywhere near to being one. Come on.

    • JustSayin

No it’s the CRIME that shows the truth! Funny how people always bring up DAHMER. What about DAHMER, DAHMER, DAHMER, DAHMER!!

      • kayla

umm because he tortured and killed like 16 people. So why wouldnt people use him as an example.

        • JustSayin

Because it’s old news. Get with the times and bring me something new…

          • kayla

dont matter how old it is, it still happened which is the point. We dont want to have to bring any new ones cuz people shouldnt be getting killed.

    • Speechless

AGREED!!!! I LOVE BROOKLYN PARK TOO! My husband and I live in apartments right now and are looking for a house, and our first choice is Brooklyn Park. People who see a city that is made of all different colors and enthic groups. Brooklyn Park Police got an award for the low crime rate did the news say a word? no. Another thing is the news likes to lump the north suburbs and just say Brooklyn Park even if it is in Champlin, Brooklyn Center, or Maple Grove. Brooklyn Park gets a bad name becasue people are lazy and don’t care to do their research.

  • There's evil in every race

The hateful, simple-mindedness is unbelievable. Guess what, Rusty? Here in Andover we had 2 murders last year. The murderers and victims were white. Golly, who would have thought??? The fact is, there is good and bad in every race. Take a look at the people who are serial killers. They’re mostly white men.

    • sad but true

those murders in Andover were committed by people who knew them thats the difference, its not random crime you understand tree stump, north of 610 is fine south of 610 is not somewhere you want to own a home unless you enjoy owning something worth nothing, listen i work for a large delivery company and we consider this area and north minneapoils the ghetto, and so do most people in the metro

      • brent

wow you have no clue delivery boy… south of 610 is the ghetto??? You obviously do not know what a ghetto is or have a different defintion for it.. I live a couple blocks south and its right by Edinbough .. A nice golf course surrounded by nice newer homes with professional upstanding people and I have lived around there most of my life. Stop making comments about things you dont know about.. Stick to your day job delivery boy

      • Sonny

You know what “Sad But True”? If you don’t live here, we don’t care what you “consider the ghetto”. We know it’s not. As for the crack about “owning something that’s worth nothing”, well guess what? Home values are down all over the country and it’s not as bad here as it is in many other places. You may not think it’s worth anything, but it’s worth a lot to the hard working honest people who live here. And instead of bashing places we don’t even live in, The vast majority of us are working to make our community a better place. Can you say the same?

  • kayla

I live in Brooklyn Park and i am white and i love it here. You can find a body anywhere. And hello most serial killers are white. So seriously the color of whoever killed this person doesnt matter, the fact that someone killed them and got away with it is what matters. and in stead of trying to figre the race out people should be worried about who the body is and the poor family that could have been searching for them for who knows how long.

    • Mike

Go to prison. 80% of murderers are Black.

      • Anthony

Kayla is right that most SERIAL killers are white males, but your statement that “80% of murderers are Black,” is a GROSS overstatement. The percentage of white murderers and the percentage of black murderers are approximately the same at around 35%, give or take a couple percentage points.

If you are going to comment, get your facts straight.

I have lived in Brooklyn Park since I was 2 years old and I have had no issues living here at all. The only time that I really ever heard that Brooklyn park was referred to as a “ghetto”, was in high school, and frankly I don’t really believe in things I hear in high school.
Just because some people don’t feel safe in Brooklyn Park, doesn’t mean that it is not safe at all. It is unfortunate that people don’t realize how hard the Brooklyn Park Police Department helps our community by creating a safer environment for us to live in.
This murder could have occurred in any “wooded area”, but it just so happens that it was in Brooklyn Park. It is unfortunate that someone had lost their life, but I find it hard to believe that the city of Brooklyn Park had anything to do with it.

        That being said…
My heart goes out to whoever the victim’s family is.

        • Rusty Shakelford

No, see what makes us mad is this. Now that we see you in the suburbs, WE CAN CLEARLY see the difference. No matter where you go, you still have to wake up get with society, or get the F out.

      • V

        Guess you would know

  • Sarah In Outstate MN

I’ve only passed through BP on my way to/from places, but does it really, really matter what the city looks like or who lives there? Someone died, a real, live person is dead. That person has family somewhere.

  • Katie 2

Don’t be so quick to judge. Crime and murders are all over the state and the country and the world. I lived in Brooklyn Park for years. Get off your high horses!

    • Sarah in Outstate MN

Crime, yes. Murders, no. The last murder in my county was 4 years ago.

    • Rev. J

I can walk around in parks in MY neiborhood. Black thugs hang out and look for trouble around the clock in black areas.

  • Brooklyn Park Resident

I live in BP and my family is happy here. We have never had a problem… We moved here from the East Side of St. Paul, that is a place we we’re afraid to be. Crime is unfortunately everywhere.
My heart goes out to the family of the victim.

  • Rusty Shakelford

Black kids, adults, teachers, parents all joke and hide others every time a murder or robbery occurs.
    And laugh behind our backs.

    • Concerned for you

WOW! I dont think anyone laughs at death! Unless you are one of the ones that do, are you ? I have you ever thought about how scared these people are of the people who are committing these crimes? I mean the person you tell on maybe locked up but the people they hang around are still around so that leaves you with a target on their head for being the snitch! you have never lived their lives so you dont have a right to judge ! I dont think you are racist, I think you are and ignorant uneducated individual and i wish you the best of luck in your life! God bless you sir !

  • Rusty Shakelford

I live in Brooklyn Park and i am white and i love it here. You can find a body anywhere.

    I LOL’ed

  • C man

How is this a subject of race??? Everyone with their biased statistics and opinions are just as bad as Rusty. If it was a murder, who is to say it didn’t happen in Edina and get buried in Brooklyn Park? My point is nobody knows what happened yet and who cares about the minor details.

  • Rusty Shakelford

Besides, that was probably the most racist statement I have hear in a couple of years Dale. Typical liberal. Wait, You Are So Racist, That You Think Only Whites Can Be Racist, Oh I get it Dale.
