Body Of 59-Year-Old Man Recovered From Red Lake

RED LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 59-year-old man drowned in Red Lake after bad weather disorientated him and caused him to travel to an area of weakened ice and open waters Sunday, according to the Red Lake Department of Public Safety.

Public Safety Director Bill Brunelle said the body of Arlen Wayne Good Of Red Lake was recovered from the northwest portion of the lake Monday morning.

According to Brunelle, Good and two other men were traveling on snowmobiles near an area called the narrows. They were returning from picking up fishing equipment when they encountered heavy fog and rainy conditions. It was then that Good apparently became disoriented and traveled to the dangerous area.

After Red Lake law enforcement received a call that Good had failed to return from the fishing trip, the Red Lake Department of Public Safety engaged its Fire Department Search and Rescue Team. The Bemidji Fire Department also dispatched a Hovercraft to the scene, where crews were able to determine a possible area where Good went in.

With help from the Lakes Area Dive Team, Good's body was recovered in approximately 10 feet of water near open water.
