Hiker Discovers Body In Springbrook Nature Center Pond

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The body of a 77-year-old man was found Monday morning by a hiker at the Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley.

Lt. Paul Sommer, of the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office, said the body was found around 10:15 a.m. in a pond at the center.

The man whose body was found was known to frequently walk in the park, according to officials.

Sommer said the body doesn’t have any signs of trauma and foul play is not suspected.

“It’s a sad thing, you know, for something like Springbrook,” said park director Siah St. Clair. “I’ve been here for 33 years, as the director, and we’ve never had any event like this happen out here.”

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

  • This is sad

This is sad for his family. Since foul play is not suspected, this poor man must have fallen in somehow, maybe during a heart attack or stroke. How sad.

It is a sad event, but no 77 yr. old should be walking around alone- if there were health issues especially.

Nonsense. My grandfather was helping build a Habitat for Humanity house when he was 3 months away from age 90. Some 77 year olds are healthier than younger people who sit on their butts all day.

Very said just because there were or may have been health issues does not mean he can’t walk alone.
