Hiker Discovers Body In Springbrook Nature Center Pond

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The body of a 77-year-old man was found Monday morning by a hiker at the Springbrook Nature Center in Fridley.

Lt. Paul Sommer, of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office, said the body was found around 10:15 a.m. in a pond at the center.

The man whose body was found was known to frequently walk in the park, according to officials.

Sommer said the body doesn't have any signs of trauma and foul play is not suspected.

"It's a sad thing, you know, for something like Springbrook," said park director Siah St. Clair. "I've been here for 33 years, as the director, and we've never had any event like this happen out here."

The medical examiner will perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
