Man Sentenced To 60 Days For Habitat For Humanity Thefts

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A former employee of the Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity was sentenced to 60 days in jail and a $200 fine for stealing thousands of dollars from the nonprofit organization.

Zachary Lyle Spader, 30, of St. Paul, worked in New Brighton for Habitat for Humanity. According to a criminal complaint, another employee reported possible fraudulent cash returns of materials to Habitat officials.

An investigation was done and officials questioned Spader, who admitted to taking the money.

The group reported Spader stole more than $90,000 from the Habitat for Humanity Restore commercial store from July 2007 to February 2009.

Spader has also been ordered to pay restitution and will be placed on probation for five years.
