Charges: 3 Men Swindled Elderly Woman In Home Repair Scam

ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- The Ramsey County Attorney's Office has charged three men Friday with felony theft by swindle in a home repair scam of an elderly woman.

The three men allegedly attempted to collect fees from an elderly St. Paul woman for the work they did on her home, which was minimal and substandard. According to the complaint, they charged her $5,800 for two hours of cement repair work that was, at best, worth $200.

The men charged are 27-year-old Blake Gary Carter of St. Paul Park, 21-year-old Timothy David Moore of Newport and 47-year-old Stephen Shawn Tague of Sioux City, Iowa. They made their first appearance in Ramsey County District Court Friday afternoon.

When Carter allegedly tried to cash the check from the victim, the bank alerted the victim and police. All three men were arrested the same day.
