Fire Damages Beet Plant, But No One Hurt
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (AP) -- A boiler fire caused damage at the American Crystal Sugar beet processing plant in East Grand Forks but did not interrupt operations. No one was hurt.
The blaze near a third-floor break room broke out during the noon hour Thursday. Firefighters say they had to open up the roof to get at the flames.
The cause of the fire and a damage estimate were not immediately determined.
The East Grand Forks plant is one of five that American Crystal operates in the Red River Valley of eastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota.
