Minor Collision Involving Light Rail Train

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A car ran a red light in downtown Minneapolis Saturday morning and was clipped by a light rail train.

"The automobile was headed south bound at 3rd Ave. and ran a red light -- crossed the tracks and the light rail vehicle clipped the rear end of the automobile," said John Sigveland, spokesman for Metro Transit.

There were no injuries.

"The car was towed -- metro transit police cited the auto driver for running a red light," said Sigveland.

It happened at 3rd Ave. and 5th St. around 9:20 Saturday morning, interrupting light rail service for less than a half hour.
