DETROIT (AP) — U.S. Sen. Al Franken of Minnesota says Michigan’s Upper Peninsula could be in the wrong hands.

The 59-year-old former “Saturday Night Live” writer and actor returned to comic form for a while Saturday during an otherwise policy focused address to the Michigan Democratic Party’s Annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Detroit.

Franken says Michigan Democrats have a ready-made issue when fighting Republicans next year because of the GOP’s resistance to helping the auto industry survive the Great Recession.

He also says Republicans will pay for advocating the gutting of the Medicare program for seniors.

On a lighter note, the Detroit Free Press quotes Franken as saying the difference between Minnesota and Michigan is the Upper Peninsula, which he says is “ridiculous.”

He says “by all rights, that’s Wisconsin.”

Franken is a buffoon by any standard.
Him and Jesse. What an embarrassment.

        1. readandthink says:

Embarrassment? I think Michelle Bachmann is far ahead of any MN politician you can name when it comes to embarrassment.

Was he awake when he gave his speech?

  2. richard says:

I guess you teabaggers just can’t take the truth. It’s clear that the repubs are for corporations and the wealthy and against the working and middle earners. 2012 will be payback time.

    1. dan says:

What part of “resistance to help auto industry” didnt you understand? Government Motors was Obamas plan to bail out big business, not Republicans. You are right, 2012 is payback time for the presidency.

  3. Tea Party Tessie says:

Fact-based, intelligent analysis like Franken’s always confuddles me. That’s why I like Michelle and Tea-Paw so much. Their nonsensical platitudes are much easier for me to comprehend. Understanding what Al is talking about is too hard. I have to think about it too much.

    1. Todd says:

Pretty much the problem with all “Tea Baggers”, they don’t think.

  4. Dave says:

I’ve always hated clowns. Franken is no exception. In the same class as Michael “The Slob” Moore.

  5. fkafka says:

Al thinks he’s another Gus Hall – that’s a joke.

  6. pss says:

  7. Norge says:

Well…. two posts saying, and using no words any different then the liberal commentators here and ‘cco is again censoring any conservative arguements out. Their idea of open debate is to just allow strong words from liberals and censor the resposes from the other side. Socialist Tyranny strikes again.

    1. Harvey says:

Your comment made it though, perhaps other things you said were vile and people reported it. for what it was.

    2. Ben says:

Aaaah…another Republican who throws the word “socialism” around to scare people, without actually knowing what it means. Good job Norge.

    3. Mike says:

Norge-It is very difficult to be censored on this site. Perhaps you should try to use reason instead of a flame thrower to make your points.

PS. Why are you posting messages in this ‘socialized’ comment section? Isn’t that a problem with your concerns for stepping off the cliff with your neighbors into collective reasoning?

  8. Kevin says:

This pile of garbage should be on Air America….oh thats right he was…and it failed….so he ran in Minnesota…..OH GOD!!!!! Belss me for this pile of garbage….

    1. Mike says:

Kevin-Blessing yourself? Now that’s true conservative principal.

      1. Kevin says:

        Indeed… as swolling is for a liberal…..

  9. rick says:

The world is complex. Deal with it.

  10. Grover says:

Conservatives say nasty things and wonder why they get edited. This state has produced it share of interesting politicians. Franken does speak the truth that seniors depending on social security and medicare, and the families that will have to support them will eventually turn on the Republicans.

    1. Don says:

Remember when the GOP made all of the seniors terrified that the Dems were going to take their medicare away? And then THEY become the ones that are ACTUALLY going to take it away.

      1. Dana Patrick says:

        Well, that’s their MO.

  11. Citizen says:

Actually, the Republicans MO is convincing the lowest 40% of the people to support and vote for the highest 2% who pay no taxes….

    1. dan says:

      @ Citizen,

You mjay want to get your facts straight before spewing your numvers. Fact: Top 1% pay 38% of all Federal Taxes

      1. Citizen says:

Obviously, Dan, you are one of the lower 40%. LOL
