MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal two-car crash Monday morning.

The crash occurred around 4 a.m. at Highway 7 and Highway 25 near Mayer in Carver County.

The State Patrol said 2004 Ford Taurus traveling north on County Road 123 ran a stop sign at Highway 7. A 2011 Toyota Corolla, driving east on Highway 7, T-boned the Taurus, causing it to crash into the flooded ditch.

The driver of the Ford Taurus was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials closed eastbound Highway 7 in far western Carver County while the investigation continued.

Controlling the intersection with a roundabout instead of signs would have prevented this tragedy.

A roundabout is not the solution. Traveling northbound on 123 you can see that there is an intersection approaching over a mile back. The driver should have stopped. There is a roundabout shortly after that ww can’t start putting roundabouts every mile down a highway. Sorry to both families so close to a holiday.

Richard: Stopping at the sign would have also prevented this tragedy. That would also save the taxpayers alot of money instead of putting in a roundabout.

If and only if it happend at Co. road 123 there is NOT a Roundabout there. It is a stop sign. If I was at Co road 10 or Hwy 25 then that is where the roundabout are. Yes I am sorry for the loss of the family member. But we just can’t go putting roundabout at every intersection. Just my two cents worth.

It seems as though more and more accidents are being caused by people ignoring STOP signs. Maybe Drivers Training classes should do more to teach students to respect a STOP signs. Same goes for Wearing Seat Belts.

Why are folks going through STOP signs at such an increased rate? Often times innocent people are killed because of this careless driving.

I’m sorry to hear about the loss of life in the accident this morning. I hope the person in the other car is ok.
The accident didn’t take place at the roundabout, it took place about 1/2 mile west of the roundabout at CR 123 and Hwy 7. There is a stop sign on CR123.
I think the reason they even mention the roundabout is they had it closed on the exit in the roundabout to go west on Hwy 7. And it’s the closest known intersection. I’m from the area and I am all for roundabouts,

The roundabout is about a mile east of this intersection. The collision was at Co. Rd. 123 and Hwy. 7, the roundabout is at Hwy. 25 and Hwy. 7.

Gee, such sympathy for Brianna’s family here. She didn’t do it on purpose, merely lost, trying to look at her GPS to find her way home! Both drivers are/were at fault, because every driver on the road needs to anticipate the actions of the other drivers as well!!
Hope some of you know it alls here NEVER ever make any mistake in your driving habits!! I’m sure none of you have ever had an accident!! Hope you never do! Thanks for all they sympathy!! Seems in your eyes my daughter learned her lesson and will never make that same mistake ever again!!
