Teens, Law Enforcement Announce Distracted Driving Enforcement

WOODBURY, Minn. (WCCO) -- The Department of Public Safety, along with teens from East Ridge High School's SADD chapter, announced an effort Wednesday to get Minnesota teens to stop driving while distracted.

They want to get the message out that texting or talking while driving can bring serious consequences.

"It is hard, I mean, that's what we do. We text in the morning, we text during school, not going to lie, we do it. And then we text at home," said Senior Blair Ginnever. "And it's hard, you know, you get in the car and you hear the ding in the car and you want to check but you have to sit there and remember, you know, you're not the only person on the road. Is it really worth checking that text message to find out, yeah, we can hang out on Saturday? If you're going to run the light and kill someone, it's not worth it."

The State Patrol says every year in Minnesota about 70 people are killed and 350 are injured because of distracted driving.
