Police: Abduction Attempt Was A Misunderstanding

Update as of 2 p.m., Big Lake Police now say this situation appears to be a misunderstanding. They don't believe an attempted abduction took place.

BIG LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police are looking for a man accused of trying to lure a girl with special needs into his vehicle.

A Minnesota Crime Alert said the incident occurred around 6:45 a.m. Thursday on the 300 block of Fern Street in Big Lake.

The ninth grade student, who has special needs, was allegedly approached by a white man, possibly between the ages of 40 and 50, around 5-foot-6 to 6-feet tall with peppered gray hair, wearing wire-rimmed glasses and a camo-style hunting hat.

He was driving a newer, large, white van or suburban-type vehicle. No license plate information was provided.

The man allegedly tried to lure the child into his vehicle while she was waiting in front of an apartment building waiting for the school bus. An adult neighbor witnessed the attempted luring, went outside and shouted at the child to not get into the vehicle.

The driver then sped away from the area. The neighbor spoke with the child, who said she didn't know the driver, but he kept telling her to get into his vehicle.
