By Susie Jones, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Repair on the Metrodome roof is moving right along with an expected completion date just announced.

All of the old panels of the roof have been removed and they have begun the installation of the new panels. So far 30 diamond panels have been installed.

Bill Lester from the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission said there is also one rectangular panel which is much larger.

"The diamond panels are 40 by 40 and they weigh about 500 pounds each. The rectangular are about two-and-a-half or three times bigger than that," he said.

The weather has been somewhat problematic, but he said they have stayed on schedule and the Dome roof repair is expected to be complete by Aug. 1.

"They are working 10-hour shifts, six days a week and we are optimistic that we are going to finish by the August 1st deadline," said Lester.

The first Vikings pre-season game is not scheduled until Aug. 27, so Lester said that will give them a little cushion, as well as to have some kind of welcome back and re-launch of the Metrodome.
