Willmar Man Pulls Knife On Police

WILLMAR, Minn. (WCCO) – Authorities in Willmar say a man being investigated in a hit-and-run accident Thursday pulled out a knife and barricaded himself inside a house.

Police say the accident happened in the 400 block of SE Trott Ave. When officers arrived, they learned that a 41-year-old woman had been forced off the road by her estranged husband, 45-year-old Jose Reyes.

Authorities went to Reyes' home to interview him about the incident. That's when he pulled a knife and barricaded himself inside a bedroom in the residence.

Police say a short standoff ensued,  but Reyes eventually surrendered and was arrested without incident.

He is currently being held in the Kandiyohi County Jail awaiting his first court appearance. He has been charged with violating an order for protection, second-degree assault, domestic assault and hit-and-run.
