Rocori School Considers Metal Detectors

COLD SPRING, Minn. (AP) -- The Rocori school board has not decided whether to install metal detectors after two weapons incidents in two weeks at the middle school.

The board discussed the issue Monday but did not vote on it. The option was also considered in 2003 after two students were shot and killed by another student at Rocori High School.

The St. Could Times reports that board member Eric Leither said there are better ways to improve security. The district is planning a community meeting to discuss the latest weapons incidents.

On April 11, a 13-year-old boy brought a gun to school and allegedly pointed it at students. A female student brought a knife to school on April 20.

Superintendent Scott Staska says metal detectors could cost more than $1 million.
