Mike Max’s News And Notes

By Mike Max, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Mike Max has more on all of the NFL talk, and more, in this week’s news and notes.

Minnesota Vikings linebacker Ben Leber, a free agent and one of the those players heavily involved in negotiations, is giving this advice to players.

“We don’t really know what to tell players at this point,” said Leber. “We’re just saying, ‘try to go back to normalcy and then, you know, see what happens.’ See if they turn you away. I mean, maybe some teams around the league are not turning players away, and guys can go in and do their workouts. ”

Ricky Rubio’s marketing people will be in town to meet with the Timberwolves people.

David Kahn is scouting in Europe this week.

The word is Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher will have a tough time matching an offer from Buffalo if they want to retain Lindy Ruff.

A name that popped up this week on the Wild’s coaching search: Wisconsin’s Mike Eaves, who has NHL experience.

sid hartman’s recollections about SANDY KOUFAX on mike max’s show stray into foul territory.

according to JANE LEARY’s careful bio of KOUFAX, the story of his being in a ST PAUL temple during YOM KIPPUR in 1965 lack any supportive evidence — other than the claims of the late BERNIE RASKAS, rabbi of the temple in question. Leary’s book makes a compelling case that KOUFAX was far from the TEMPLE OF AARON on this HIGH HOLY DAY. ironically, as i was leaving the late HUNGRY MIND BOOK STORE, with a copy of LEARY’s book under my arm, i ran into the late rabbi who told me about his seeing KOUFAX at the back of his temple on said day.

Now “our sid” becomes another shaky source for a historical fact that resembles that of “JQ ADAMS being a FOUNDING FATHER.”
