MPCA's Minnesota GreenCorps Now Recruiting

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Minnesota GreenCorps is now recruiting host sites and members for the upcoming year.

GreenCorps is an outgrowth of the federal AmeriCorps program that the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency started in 2009. In its first two years, Minnesota GreenCorps has placed more than 50 AmeriCorps members in positions with cities, counties, school districts, universities and nonprofits.

Program goals include reducing solid waste and increasing recycling; reducing greenhouse gases and other air pollutants; reducing stormwater runoff and improving water quality; and training new environmental professionals. Positions for the upcoming year will be in the areas of energy conservation, waste prevention, living green, and green infrastructure.

The upcoming year of the program begins in September. Applications for host sites are due May 5, and applications for AmeriCorps members are due May 26.
