60th Street Reopens For 1st Time Since Gas Main Fire
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More than a month after a gas main fire left a gaping hole and caused extensive damage to 60th Street in Minneapolis, the road has been reopened to traffic.
The city of Minneapolis said crews finished restoring the street, between Nicollet Avenue and Interstate 35W, after a March 17 fire closed it to the public.
The exit to 60th Street, from I-35W is also open, along with the on-ramp to the freeway. The gas main fire left extensive damage to the underground utility pipes, which required repairs to the line, underground water main and a storm sewer.
Following the completion of that work, the street and curb were also replaced.
The traffic signal on 60th Street is still out of service and temporary stop signs remain in place. A replacement signal is expected to be installed by mid-May.
