Judge Could Rule On NFL Lockout Hold Today

By Courtney King, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- A Minneapolis federal judge could rule today on a request from NFL owners to put on hold on her decision to lift the lockout. Commissioner Roger Goodell, meanwhile, says owners are preparing for every contingency.

"You have to react to the judgment and make sure it's done in an orderly process," Goodell said Wednesday during a predraft event in New York.

The owners want the ruling "stayed" while they appeal. Vikings officials say they're proceeding as if the lockout is still in place.

NFL players say the league's request to put a federal judge's lockout ruling on hold should be denied because the work stoppage harms them and their careers.

Legal Analyst, Tom Shroyer, spoke with Dave Lee on WCCO's The Morning Show about the latest NFL dispute.

Shroyer said, U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson, wrote an extensive 89-page paper with her decision and it may or may not limit a chance of appeal.

"There weren't a lot of facts that she decided in favor of or against either party," he explained, "Most of what's going to go up on appeal to the 8th circuit will be questions of the law, which the Appellate court will freely rule on without regard to her prior work."

Some players tried to go back to work Tuesday, but most who did were told they couldn't work out at team facilities once they entered the building.
