Pitching In To Fix Up Houses In Need

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This weekend, thousands of people will be swinging hammers and pounding nails for a good cause.

This Saturday is National Rebuilding Day, where volunteers help to fix up homes for people who otherwise couldn't afford it.

The effort comes through the nonprofit group Rebuilding Together, whose mission statement advocates "a safe and healthy home for every person."

Crews are going to work on 15 Minneapolis homes in this year's program, involving 200 volunteer workers.

One of those homes belongs to Iris Hodges. She told Kerry McNally she has been living in her home for 15 years.

Recently, the roof started leaking, so one of the partners of Rebuilding Together, Select Evergreen, will be pitching in to help fix the roof.

"I thank God that Rebuilding Together is here to help me with this," said Hodges.

Volunteers or people looking to donate to the cause can visit this website.
