KIA Issues Recall After Engine Strap Issue

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Thousands of cars are being recalled in several states, including Minnesota and Wisconsin, because their gas tanks can fall off.

Officials from KIA said Friday that more than 58,000 KIA Spectra L-D's are being recalled because of the issue. Those are older, compact cars from model years 2004 to 2007.

The issue: Road salt used in the winter can make straps that hold the gas tank on rust and eventually fall off. That could spark a fire or cause the engine to fall out of the car.
