Esme’s Blog: Obsessed With The Royal Wedding

By Esme Murphy, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — I have to come out of the closet on this one. I am obsessed with the Royal Wedding. I woke up early, watched the whole thing, checked out British newspapers on line and even did it again today.

Why? It must be that I need an escape. Escape from the news that is so ugly: Young, innocent people being shot in the head, sexual abuse by monks, devastating killer tornadoes and the list goes on.

Then there is the dreary and depressing weather that smothers us with dampness and cold at the very moment we crave and so deserve a warm sun. I need a break, a bit of fantasy, beauty and glamour. And I guess the only place I can get it is across the pond, via the telly.

God Save The Queen, or whatever the Brits like to shout. God save them for being able to put on a show second to none.

Me too Esme! Between the Royal Wedding, the great weather here yesterday & the recent movie The King’s Speech my old stamp collection with British monarchs & royals from Victoria to Elizabeth came to life. Fun to figure if your travel pix are Buckingham or Kensington & who was invited & some like Fergie, Madonna, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown or Jack Straw (my favorite successful commoner name) were noted by their absence. Fun way to experience & learn a little history & quaint lingo. Interesting similarities & differences between UK & US w/ friendly humourous references to Ireland. Great people watching & also got a kick out of Nigel (with the perfect name for the occasion) on ‘CCO.

I, too, enjoyed the whole event immensely. It was well worth a sleep-deprived Friday at work! Everyone says Kate is so lucky to be marrying a prince, but I think we all know now that William is just as fortunate in having Kate, with her classy, beautiful demeanor, agree to become his wife and, thus, a member of the royal family. She will be a welcome source of pride for all of them. I think one of the reasons so many wish the best to this wonderful couple is knowing all that William endured in his younger life. He certainly embodies all the good traits of both parents. May their future be blessed!

I AM SO WITH YOU, AND THANK YOU FOR COMNG OUT OF THIS CLOSET.

YOU MAY BE THE EXACT RIGHT PERSON FOR ME TO APPROACH. FOR THE LAST NEARLY SIX YEARS, MY FAMILY IS MADE VICTIM OF SOMETHING UNSPEAKABLE IN YESTERDAY’S WORLD AND GOVERNMENT RIGHT HERE IN MINNESOTA.

MY STORY SHOULD HAVE MADE FRONT PAGE NEWS WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO REPORT IT. THE COVERAGE WOULD EPTIOMIZE THE REASON FOR WHO MADE OUR STATE UGLY AND IMMORAL.

PLEASE CONTACT ME. I’LL SHARE THE DETAIL WITH ANYONE INTERESTED IN THE TRUTH.

I FOUND ESCAPE IN THE ROYAL FANFARE, AND AN IDEA OF BETTER. I GUESS WE BOTH WERE EARLY RISERS FRIDAY MORNING.

THANK YOU ESME. I MEAN THAT.

Esme……. your blogs lately have been on the lite side for comments and content. As a journalist posting blogs….. would it hit more to bring something to lite where people can interact with comments and opinions rather than just following a weekend story televised thru-out the world and replayed numerous times or talking about WCCO personalities (Don, Caroline). I actually miss your political blogs that to me are way more interesting and interactive.
