Twin Cities Red Cross Worker Helping Alabama Tornado Victims

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis area Red Cross staffer is seeing the Alabama tornado destruction first hand.
"It's shocking," said Lynette Nyman, who has been dispatched to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to help Red Cross efforts in the aftermath of a huge tornado.
"It's very stressful, you know, working with people trying to basically comfort them during a time where there's just nothing that makes sense" said Nyman.
She's helping with a Red Cross shelter as well as mobile food trucks going around the city. About 300 people are spending nights at the shelter, with more coming in during the day.
Nyman attended graduate school at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, so she's familiar with areas of the city that were destroyed by the powerful storm.
"We're all just wondering what this was," said Nyman.
She is the only Minneapolis area Red Cross worker in Alabama at this time but she expects more Minnesotans to arrive in the coming days.
The latest counts show 339 people killed in 7 states including 250 deaths in Alabama.
