Blind Bowlers Tournament Coming To Bloomington

By Bruce Hagevik, NewsRadio 830 WCCO

BLOOMINGTON (WCCO) -- Approximately 400 blind and visually impaired bowlers from around the country will compete in a national bowling tournament in Bloomington, Minn.

"We use 12 to 15 foot rails that go from a foot behind the foul line and go back and run next to the ball returns," explained Nancy Giddings, editor of Blind Bowler.

She says the system works well.

"The totally blind and those that have lower vision use that to guide their approach up there and then they throw the ball," Giddings added.

The tournament events will include singles, doubles and teams.

This is the 64th annual American Blind Bowling Association National Tournament.

It will be held from May 26 to May 29 at Southtown Lanes in Bloomington.
