Hastings Police Set To Auction Off Classic Mustang

HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) -- If you stay sober behind the wheel, you'll be able to keep it.
The Hastings Police Department is auctioning off a classic Mustang this weekend that they took possession of last year when the owner was convicted of DWI.
"It's a 1969 Ford Mustang two-door coupe, black in color," Hastings Police Chief Paul Schnell said with the enthusiasm of a seasoned car dealer. "The body is in reasonable shape."
He said the owner removed some parts from the car before police finally took possession of it. But Schnell said with a little elbow grease, someone can turn it into a beauty.
Proceeds from the auction will go to the department.
"We're not in the car business," said Schnell. "We thought it best to get this car out, and somebody who is a collector (can) use it. And obviously the proceeds would come back and we can use that."
A viewing will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday before the 10 a.m. auction at the Hastings Police Department.
