Sheriff: Man Ran In Circles, ‘Shadowboxed’ Lamppost

CHANHASSEN, Minn. (WCCO) — A man was observed acting in a bizarre manner and disturbing the peace in Chanhassen, Minn. Thursday evening.

According to the Carver County Sheriff’s Office, the man was seen on the corner of Highways 41 and 5 at about 10 p.m., yelling and running around in circles.

The person calling police said the man, estimated to be between 18 and 25 years old, was also “shadowboxing” a lamppost.

When confronted, the man ran away from the scene. Sheriff’s deputies tried to find the man using a K-9 team and a State Patrol helicopter, but were unable to locate the suspect.

It wasn’t the last time authorities were called to that area overnight. A few hours later a man believe to be intoxicated led police on a chase that ended in Hazeltine National Golf Club.

  • justaWondering

Why would ‘shadow boxing’ a lamppost bring out a K-9 unit and a helicopter? Was Dunkin’ doughnuts closed?

    • justawondering too.

The really sad part is that a wacked out drunk/high guy elluded the K-9 and a helicoptor. The Police probably feel kind of embarrassed.

  • Hmm

Sounds like someone out jogging playing out a Rocky movie or something like that. Not like he was hurting anyone. Waste of tax dollars here.

  • Baeo

really sounds like the movie “Singing in the Rain”

really K9 for shadow boxing? …Chan cops must need something to do.

  • Doug Turner

Wow – its now against the law in minnesota to be crazy…. this is going to be a real problem.

Most of the House & Senate seats will be empty!

  • REALLY??

Unbelievable!! Please tell me there was more to this story or this was a huge waste. What’s the price of helicopter fuel these days?

  • unreal

I would be scared if it was on my property and he was boxing my lamp post.

Rocky would have had a felony record.

I would guess that it might have been a problem if he were to have picked a person for shadow boxing.

the charge in this case is assaulting your own shadow, Minnesota, the land where nothing is legal.

    Yo Adrian!!!!!

    Oops, it’s the fuzz…gotta run!

I don’t think Chanhassen has an official town character and this is probably why. Excelsior had Jimmy, he made a trip to Excelsior an event to remember. I miss Jimmy, no one could talk with a cigar like he could. Oh well, that’s why Chanhassen is boring and striving to be like every other cookie cutter Edina look alike retail town.

  • The Boxer

Seriously, a K-9 and a helicopter for a man shadowboxing around a lamp post? OMG, this is what our tax dollars are paying for? And police can’t figure out why they have a bad rap with general public. Hmmmm, go do something more productive. Probably some 90 year old spaztic lady called it in, disturbing the peace.

  • Come On

I think the fact that he ran from the cops is why they brought out dogs and helicopter. . Anyone who runs from the cops is hiding something and needs to be checked out.

Just so you know, Hwy 41 and State Hwy 5 intersection is not a playground, it is a major interchange for that area. That would be a sign that someone is maybe lacking in reasoning ability and could get into traffic and get hurt. I would guess a passing motorist called it in. I bet most of you who think this is ridiculous would rather not run some nut over and have to live with that. Sure, he might be the love child of Ernest T. Bass and Charlene Darling but he’s still a nut.

I live in the area and I am thankful that someone called this in; not only for the individuals’ safety but also for everyone living in the area.

  • Tim

I did a little shadow boxing of the ole lightpost last night too!

The police search would have been based on the medical attention this person needed, opposed to the disorderly conduct. The average person does not act this way, and would be under the influence of a controlled substance or suffering from a mental health issue. Would it have been better for the police to not look for this guy, and have him found dead in the morning from an overdose? No matter what they police do, they are the bad guys…. unless you are the one that needs them. There is alot more to police work than catching criminals. Police respond to more medicals and mental health issues than any other type of police call.
