Neighbors Help Neighbors In South St. Paul
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Neighbors helping neighbors: It's the secret for success at a South St. Paul non-profit.
From donated clothes they sell in their clothes closet, to a stocked food shelf and medical transportation, Neighbors, Inc. in South St. Paul is a broad-based social service agency.
Linda Franke is one of more than a thousand volunteers each year who give their time to the program that dates back to 1972.
"The people are amazing to work for here at Neighbors," Franke said.
John Kemp, the Executive Director and C.E.O., says it's about making connections.
"We're a conduit between those people who have something to give whether it's time or food or clothing or funds to those people in the community who need it," Kemp said.
That need has spiked since the beginning of the year. Food requests are up more than 25 percent.
As their services grow, space has been shrinking. Soon, they'll move into a new building a mile away that's twice the size.
"We store our stuff in multiple places and right now we'll be able to put them away and have some space to move," Franke said.
