Driver Runs SUV Into Car To Save Strangers Near Race

By Rachel Slavik, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Minnesota man is being called a hero for risking his safety to save dozens of strangers at Sunday's Race for the Cure.

Jim Glover made a quick decision when he purposefully drove his wife's SUV into an out-of-control car near the Mall of America.

"It all happened pretty fast. I did what I thought was right," Glover said.

His actions may have saved lives. About 50 yards away from the crash, thousands of Race for the Cure participants were standing.

Moments before the crash, Glover and his wife were driving on the Killebrew Drive exit when they noticed a 91-year-old woman driving erratically.

"I knew something was wrong," Glover said.

Glover's Wife, Satomi Glover, said, ""[The woman] hit the guardrails several times."

Glover said the woman was driving around 30 miles per hour, and it was clear she wasn't going to stop. So he sped ahead and drove the SUV he was driving into her car.

"I thought if I didn't do anything and she went through the intersection and took out people, I really couldn't live with myself after that," Glover said.

The Bloomington Police commander said that Glover's quick thinking saved the day.

The woman Glover drove into was taken to the hospital. However, no information has been released on her condition or on what caused her to drive erratically.

In the crash, Glover's wife's SUV received an estimated $6,000 worth of damage.
