Hibbing Mayor Bitten During Attempted Robbery

HIBBING, Minn. (AP) -- Charges are expected Tuesday against three men allegedly involved in an attempted robbery during which the mayor of Hibbing was bitten in the face.

Mayor Rick Cannata was walking with three other people Friday night when three males reportedly approached them demanding money and threatening to hurt them. One of the suspects bit Cannata in the face, and Robert Jaynes was struck in the head. Both were treated and released.

The Duluth News Tribune reports two of the suspects fled. Cannata chased and caught the third, a 17-year-old male who is in custody.

A 20-year-old suspect was arrested when he returned to the crime scene afterward while police were investigating. The third suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested at his home.
