Jr. High Worker Charged With Selling Cocaine

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A junior high employee has been charged with possessing and selling cocaine.

John Joseph Daugherty, 59, of Elk River, Minn., was arrested last week. Police set up a controlled purchase in late April after being tipped off about Daugherty's alleged drug transactions.

Daugherty sold cocaine to the informant, who then turned it over to police. Late last week, officers obtained search warrants and examined his car and house.

A number of grams of cocaine were obtained from Daugherty's pants pockets.

Daugherty is an employee at Osseo Junior High School. According to authorities, he does not hold a teaching position at the school, but police did not clarify his specific job title.

Officers also searched Daugherty's office at the junior high, but found no drugs there.

He has been charged with second-degree sale of a controlled substance and third-degree possession of a controlled substance. Both are felony counts.

Daugherty was being held at Hennepin County Jail on $50,000 bail.
