Meet Justin Bieboar: Saints Newest Pig Mascot

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- Baseball is coming back to St. Paul on Thursday night as the St. Paul Saints open their season at Midway Stadium.

To get ready, the team fired up fans with a block party in downtown St. Paul, complete with introducing their new mascot.

Meet Justin Bieboar. The Saints' mascot is only 1-month-old, but he will grow a lot during the course of the season.

"Lots of people and a cute little pig. And I don't think I've ever gotten to pet a pig before, so I did today and he bit me," said Jennifer LaCasse of Minneapolis who attended the rally and learned that pigs do have teeth.

Lots of Saints players were at the party, signing autographs for young and old, and then playing catch with fans, using really soft balls.

When fans meet players, they have questions:

"Mainly just about how the season is gonna go, who's all here, who's starting. They know more about the game than some of us," said Saints Pitcher Edwin Walker with a sampling of the questions.

How do the Saints compare to that other baseball team?

"We love the team in Minneapolis, they're great, they've been great friends of ours. We are the family-affordable, fun place to hang out this summer," said Sean Aronson with the St. Paul Saints.

As if to prove they are all about the fun, the Saints even brought sumo wrestling suits to their downtown St. Paul party.

The Saints first game of the season is Thursday at 7 p.m. and it is also military appreciation night.

Also during opening weekend, the St. Paul Saints will have a Metrodome Whoopie Cushion giveaway given to the first 2,501 fans at the Saturday's 7:05 p.m. game. The Whoopie Cushion commemorates the 30th anniversary of "Inflation Day" of the Metrodome and the 2010 "Deflation Day."
