U Of M To Study War Effects On Military Families

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Researches at the University of Minnesota are recruiting hundreds of National Guard and Reserve families to find out the best ways to support them.

The ceremonies where Minnesota troops are sent off overseas to Iraq and Afghanistan have been almost too common. But it's never easy for those families trying to cope while their loved ones are in harm's way.

During the next five years, U of M researchers are going to study parenting and how kids adjust as parents get deployed to and return from service.

Researchers are looking for Twin Cities families who have gone through that process and have children ages 5 to 12. Families will be paid $400 to $635 over the course of the study.
