Grand Jury Indicts Bakdash In Fatal Hit-And-Run
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A grand jury has indicted a Minnesota man on a first-degree murder charge for allegedly plowing into a crowd of pedestrians and killing a Wisconsin man.
The Hennepin County Attorney's office said the grand jury indicted 29-year-old Timothy Bakdash of Roseville on Thursday.
Bakdash is accused of purposely driving onto a sidewalk and striking the pedestrians on April 15 near the University of Minnesota. One of the pedestrians, 23-year-old Benjamin Van Handel of Appleton, Wis., later died.
Police said the hit-and-run stemmed from an argument Bakdash and Van Handel had at a Minneapolis bar that evening.
Bakdash also was indicted on two counts of attempted first-degree murder for also allegedly striking two women. He remains in the Hennepin County Jail, with bail set at $1 million.
