Minn. Driver Charged With Injuring 2-Year-Old Girl

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A St. Paul driver accused of striking and injuring a 2-year-old girl has been charged with criminal vehicular operation and driving while intoxicated.

Fifty-two-year-old Hamjatta Baba Fofana is scheduled to appear in court June 17.

Police responded April 10 to a report of a hit-and-run injury. The St. Paul Pioneer Press report says the victim was missing a quarter-sized piece of her scalp and was covered in dirt.

Prosecutors say the girl’s mother saw Fofana hit the girl, and the father yelled at him to stop. The father ran to the driver’s door and yanked on the car’s emergency brake but he couldn’t wrestle the keys away. They say the driver fled the scene.

Police found Fofana at home. They say he smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech.

A message left at Fofana’s home Friday was not immediately returned.

Alcohol does not make you smarter. If you are going to drink and need to get somewhere…try walkiing.

I am not sure what all your comment are about. Hamjatta Baba Fofana is a native of St. Paul. Grew up in and schooled at Highland Park. Works at the local bank. I think he is also half Irish. He was at a work sponsored happy hour. So all this nonsense regarding his race/origins is completely misplaced.

    • mpls sux

Well I guess there won’t be anymore happy hours sponsored by that company…
Kind of ruined it for all huh?

    • Less is More

Work sponsored happy hour? I hope the legal eagles don’t see that.

    • terry

Why do you think we care about all of those details…..he is clearly a dirt bag!!!

  • Dale Gribble

Well, the half Irish part makes sense…

  • Ven

Wow…that what you come up with?

  • Rho

I don’t care who this guy is, what the color of his skin, what his origin of nationality, where he works, what school he graduated from, what degrees he holds, who his parents are, what his religion is, what he does for an occupation, what he chooses to do in his free time…the fact is…he chose to drink, get behind the wheel of a car, hit a young innocent and severely injured a beautiful innocent child in front of her helpless terrified parents and then fled the scene of the accident. What that tells me is that he is a heartless criminal!

    • Good Ol Boy

I have to agree with Rho. Even if she ran out and got hit, and he had only had a couple drinks, there just is no excuse for leaving her in the road to possibly die and never having gotten out to see himself. Too selfish of an act for me to reconcile in my mind.
