Esme's Blog: Boring, Bland And A Winner?

By Esme Murphy, WCCO-TV

A columnist for the site The Daily Beast labeled ex-Gov. Tim Pawlenty "boring, bland and unknown" and then goes on to argue that he could in fact win the GOP nomination.

As he announces his bid for the presidency, Pawlenty's "boring" quotient may be helpful. With Mike Huckabee, Donald Trump and Mitch Daniels announcing in the last week they won't be running, he has already gotten a boost just by their absence.

And then there are those sitting on the sidelines who are anything but boring. Has anyone ever called Rep. Michele Bachmann boring? How about Sarah Palin? Newt Gingrich has already seemed to implode his candidacy by attacking the republican proposal on Medicare.

Then there are the millionaire former governors Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. Romney in Massachusetts proposed a health care law that is the model for what republicans vilify as "Obamacare." Romney has also flip flopped on abortion rights. Huntsmen actually worked for President Obama as ambassador to China and once praised Obama in a letter as a "remarkable leader." Controversial stuff for republicans but certainly not boring.

For Pawlenty, boring may be the new exciting. Bland and unknown may be the tickets for success in 2012.
