Madelia Man Killed By His Own Mower

MADELIA, Minn. (AP) — A man from rural Madelia has been found dead, pinned underneath a riding lawn mower.

Blue Earth County sheriff’s deputies tell The Free Press of Mankato that 59-year-old Gary Wersal was attempting to free the mower from some mud on Saturday afternoon.

The throttle was wide open when the mower came loose, ran into Wersal and dragged him 15 feet before getting stuck again. Wersal’s body was found under the mower about 2:15 p.m. Saturday.

    Isn’t that a picture of a push-mower?

    • jeff

Yep, leave it to the star tribune to be that lazy. Reminds me of all the typos we consistently see.

      • Dave

Except, Jeff, you’re on the WCCO website, not the Strib’s. Crummy walk-behind mower picture though.

  • MAJ

Tragic accident. (Put up a different picture as this is a push mower you are showing. He was using a riding mower.) The groundskeeper at the Lions Park in Corcoran died in a similar accident last summer..

I can’t believe you people care about the generic photo they use, You need to get a life, a man is dead and the mower photo bothers you.

I agree. A dang caption picture should be the last on everyone’ minds. Sheesh. Of course if they had NO picture then people would still b-i-t-c-h.

It’s miss leading. Now we will all have to deal with our wives being confused as to what kind of mower is likely to kill us. This is how the fear mongering starts.

    Darwin Award candidate?

  • MplsChic

To the contrary – it’s very misleading when you see the picture on the front page and the caption that a man was killed by his own lawnmower. See: Journalism 101.
