Man Facing 2 Charges In 1996 Murder

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Bloomington man was charged for the murder of a Minneapolis man that happened nearly 15 years ago on Monday in Hennepin County District Court.

William Dallas Chaboyea, 35, was charged in a warrant with second-degree murder for the benefit of a gang and second-degree murder on Monday. The charges were in connection with the shotgun murder of Michael Baldeagle on May 28, 1996.

Chaboyea was arrested as he was being released from the Sherburne County Jail on Monday.

A criminal complaint states Baldeagle was in the vicinity of the 1700 block of 27th Street East in Minneapolis when he and other witnesses saw a group of men in an alley. His friends pleaded with him not to go into the alley, but he did and flashed a gang sign at the group.

The men, according to the complaint, were members of the Native Mob Gang. After a brief argument with the men, Chaboyea pulled out a shotgun and killed Baldeagle, according to the complaint.

If convicted on both charges, Chaboyea faces a maximum penalty of 85 years in prison.
