Man Sentenced For Child's Accidental Drowning In Bathtub

ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 52-year-old man was sentenced in Ramsey County District Court on Tuesday for the 2009 drowning death of 18-month-old Brianna Rose Jackson.

Daniel Wright had a sentenced of four years in prison stayed and will spend 180 days in the Ramsey County Jail on a staggered sentence.

Wright pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on April 4.

According to a criminal complaint, St. Paul Police were called to a residence in the 1600 block of Darlene Street in July of 2009 on a report that a child had drowned in a bathtub.

When officers arrived, Barbara Wright was performing CPR on the child. The child was eventually transported to United Children's Hospital and later died.

Authorities said Daniel Wright was watching two children, including Jackson, in the bathtub. Wright took the other child out of the bathtub to dry him off and get him dressed, leaving Jackson alone and not within a view, according to the complaint.

Wright's son discovered Jackson unresponsive in the bathtub a few minutes later, lying on her side and under water, according to the complaint. Wright's son told authorities that Wright told him the child had been left unattended for about one-and-a-half minutes.
