DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — A 28-year-old Minnesota man has been given five years in federal prison for driving to Iowa to have sex with an underage girl.

A news release from the U.S. attorney’s office for the southern district of Iowa says Ananas Getachew of Bloomington, Minn., had pleaded guilty to interstate travel to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. On Tuesday, he also was ordered to serve five years of supervised release after he leaves prison.

The release says Getachew had been chatting online last July with someone he thought was a 13-year-old girl. The “girl” was a Clinton County, Iowa, detective.

He was arrested in Clinton County on July 29 after he drove there to meet the girl.

You didn’t come here for sex? Then why are you carrying a six pack of wine coolers, condoms, and you’re wearing no pants?

I love that show!! Please do it in Minneapolis, and clean house.

  3. The Trend says:

Meanwhile all these female teachers who have sex with underage boys get a little slap on the wrist

    1. Sounds like a good idea to me says:

Yeah, that reminds me – where were all those teachers when I was in school?

    2. Good Ol Boy says:

They do? Can you demonstrate this disparity in sentencing please?

      1. yep says:

This was the most obvious one I would say. Sex with 14 year old multiple times, never spend a day in jail “to protect the victim”.

  4. The punishment doesn't quite fit the crime. says:

It seems rather harsh for simply thinking with the little head. And, it perhaps borders on entrapment as well.

Before you cry foul at the above comments, consider what the courts deliver for sentences for killing someone … 5, 10, 15 years maybe? And if you kill someone with your vehicle, you’ll likely get only probation, four years jail time at most.

Killing someone seems a little more harmful and a little more permanent than a roll in the hay, don’t ya think?

    1. Shannon says:

Really! A roll in the hay! This was a 28 year old MAN going to have sex with a 13 year old GIRL! Whether or not it was truly a girl or a cop doesn’t matter. This guy was intending on having sex with a child. What if this really was a 13 year old girl going to meet up with this guy? and she was your daughter or sister? How would you feel then?

You’re really comparing apples to oranges. No matter what the penalties are for murder, this CREEP needs to be behind bars..he is a sexual preditor! Sexual preditors/Pedophiles cannot be rehabilitated. 5 years sounds like a cake walk to me.

        Well said, and SECONDED.

Agree with both Julie and Shannon, what if it were your daughter… and don’t tell me that it would never be your daughter because she knows better or you monitor what she is doing, because any parent knows you can’t be with your child every second of the day and you instill values and morales in them and only hope they will listen to you and remember those values but you just never know , this guy deserves to be in prison. And 5 yrs is a cake walk.

I agree, the severity of punishment for having sex with an underage person should never exceed that for taking a human life. There is no equivocating here; human life cannot be replaced, whereas many of these minors are not exactly (from everything I’ve read) unwilling participants in these escapades. Do not misinterpret my meaning here-pedohilia is an abhorrent crime and their should be stiff penalties for engaging in the behavior. My only point is that having consensual sex with a 17 year old is not on par with killing a family of four while driving drunk, and any attempt to equate the two is a offense to the concept of justice. Peace.

  5. Victim Du Jour says:

The media is practicing Nazi Eugenics with sex offense laws.

That’s why good looking people don’t go to prison, and Ugly people go to prison for the rest of their life.
