Rainy, Cold Spring Slices Profits At Area Golf Courses

EDINA, Minn. (WCCO) -- It's been a dismal spring for golf courses around the Twin Cities because of the cold and rain.

Todd Anderson, General Manager at Braemar Golf Course in Edina, said this is the worst he's seen in his 25 years at the course.
"Actually I spoke with Dick Yates who used to run the Minneapolis courses and he had been in the business for, he's retired now, but in the business since '74 so that's the worst spring in 37 years," he said.
Anderson is trying to offer golfers some incentive as well.
"And we've had days where we actually sent out a special, a dollar a hole, because the forecast was so bad. Couple of times they were wrong and it was a big hit, but the majority of the time, unfortunately, they were right and we had no golfers, even at a dollar a hole," he said.
Despite the cool spring, there were some diehards on the course like Howie Tucker.
"I love Minnesota. I don't worry about the spring," said Tucker.
Anderson said at least they are not alone. He talked with a manager at an area Cub Food store and people aren't buying a lot for the grill either.
