Woman Charged For Crash That Killed Motorcyclist

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 77-year-old woman has been charged in connection to a crash that killed motorcyclist in October 2010.

Donna Rollins, from Lakeville, Minn., was charged with careless driving and failure to yield.

Rollins was allegedly heading north on Cedar Avenue in Eureka Township, Minn. She was trying to make a left turn into a driveway, when she cut across southbound lanes, in front of two motorcycles carrying a man and his wife.

The motorcycles weren't able to stop and Ricky Dean Ball, 62, and his 61-year-old wife Nancy Ball were thrown from the bikes.

Ricky Ball was killed at the scene. His wife was brought to Regions Hospital with severe injuries.

Dakota County Attorney, James Backstrom said that because drugs and alcohol were not a factor, and there is no way to prove gross negligence, the misdemeanor charges are the maximum that could be done.

Rollins' first court appearance will be in Hastings next month.
