Twins To Say One Last Goodbye To Harmon Killebrew

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — It’s Harmon Killebrew Day in Minnesota, with his longtime team set for a memorial service to honor the late Hall of Fame slugger.

Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton declared Thursday as Harmon Killebrew Day, in remembrance of the man who hit 573 career home runs and died at age 74 last week after a bout with esophageal cancer. Dayton’s proclamation said Killbrew’s life “should serve as an inspiration to everyone.”

The event at Target Field is open to the public, and the Twins have planned a progressive ceremony to precede it. Some of Killebrew’s former teammates will meet at the Mall of America in Bloomington on the old site of home plate at Metropolitan Stadium.

They’ll take light rail to the Metrodome to pick up more ex-Twins before arriving at the new ballpark.

I wish I could be there tonight. My grandfather and I listened to the Twins games on WCCO; it was a big part of my childhood. When the Killer got up to bat it was time to prick up your ears and pay attention, lest history be made….

While Mark seems to be a jerk…………..I agree. Enought already. This is getting to be way to much!

When you get to Target Field this evening, look for the ECAN kiosk. The Twins have been gracious enough to let our organization educate the public on Esophageal Cancer. EC has one of the worst survivor rates of ANY cancer.
Survivors and family members will be available to answer any questions. Remember– frequent heartburn can kill!
