MINNETRISTA, Minn. (WCCO) — Thirteen fire departments battled a house fire in Minnetrista, Minn., that engulfed a $1.5 million house in flames Friday afternoon.

Crews responded to the fire after receiving a 911 call at around 2 p.m. The house is located on Enchanted Island on Lake Minnetonka.

The Mound Fire Chief said that there is nothing left of the back of the house and that that information lead firefighters to think that the house exploded.

The cause of the explosion, however, is not known.

The family that lives in the house was not home when the fire began. The Minnetrista Police Chief said no one was injured during the fire.

Wendi Morical, a neighbor, said she called the family to tell them the bad news.

“I told them it’s pretty much engulfed in flames and that there really isn’t going to be much left of it,” Morical said. “They were really despondent to hear that.”

Morical was concerned that the fire would spread to her house, because there are no fire hydrants on the island.

“Everything has to be pumped in,” she said. “So if it started on fire, it could be devastating for us as well.”

Brent Williams saw it burn from his friend’s boat. He and his friend called 911 and then took pictures from the water.

“You could feel the heat coming from the fire,” Williams said.

Firefighters were not able to find two dogs that were supposed to be in the house.

CenterPoint Energy said it shut off gas to the home at around 3:30 p.m.

Not everyone is in financial trouble, Fishy.. although you probably assume people with big houses are because you cant afford one yourself. A little respect for someone whose entire life worth of belongings is on fire would be too much to ask, I assume

      Also, their two dogs!!!

  2. Minnetrista homeowner says:

Get a grip everyone that is my neighborhood and the picture is not very good so cannot tell whose house it is. No I am not rich and I work hard just like everyone else. Thanks!

      didn’t ask or care

I live in the wonderful lake Minnetonka Community where this explosion took place. Everyone is connected somehow to the people, neighbors, and firefighters. How ignorant you must be to think that you would burn down your own house and let your two dogs perish inside. This is a terrible tragedy! We are all worried for the welfare and safety for those involved.

Totally agree!!! What is with people??? This is the only local news website I have seen with a comment area and I just had to leave a comment because what people have posted is so shocking!! So much for MN nice, let alone basic human empathy.

    To “Ignorant”;
maybe you want to suggest a book burning while your at it…if you don’t like what you read, quit reading it. Who are you to censure anyone else? Our founding fathers provided us with the right to free speech, which means not just the speech *you* approve of, but even that which might offend. Get a grip on yourself and grow up.

      Hey St Paulie Girl…
Censure: An expression of strong disapproval or harsh criticism. (Which is what you just did). Censor: Any person who supervises the manners or morality of others. Which did you mean? knucklehed!

  9. Moundie says:

    Um, that’s Mound, not Minnetrista.
