Volunteers Turn Out In Droves For N. Mpls. Clean Up

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Even though there is so much work left to do to rebuild in North Minneapolis after last Sunday's tornado, one organization said they've had so many people sign up to help that volunteers are no longer needed on Saturday.

Ryan Petersen, a spokesperson from Urban Homeworks, said that they have had overwhelming response in the past four days. Petersen said nearly 3,000 volunteers have come forward.

He said that anyone signed up to clear trees and debris on Saturday, May 28, should no longer come. He also thanked everyone who volunteers.

Other organizations like the University of Minnesota's Urban Research and Outreach said they are still looking for volunteers to drop off food and household supplies. That organization is also planning a big event on Saturday and could use more volunteers.

The City of Minneapolis announced that Saturday, June 4 will be the official North Side Volunteer Clean-Up Day in north Minneapolis and they will need 2,000 volunteers that day.

They also remind people that donations are always needed. For more information on how you can help, click here.
