Minn. DNR To Re-Run Lottery For Bear-Hunt Permits

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Hunters who think they've already received a Minnesota bear-hunting permit for this year will have to wait a little longer for confirmation.

The state Department of Natural Resources is rerunning the lottery for awarding permits. It says an error led to incorrect content being posted on the agency's website.

That may have led some hunters to believe they've already been awarded permits. But the results may change.

The DNR says new lottery results will be posted online within a few weeks. Successful hunters will also be notified by mail next month.

The agency says the problem arose when 2009 data were used to determine hunter preference levels, not the most current 2010 data. As a result, the permit winners were incorrectly selected.
